The History of Gluttony

Deuteronomy 21: 18-21 (King James Version)
"If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them. Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of the city, and unto the gate of his place; And they should say unto the elders of the city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel should hear, and fear.

Gluttony is commonly considered as an excess amount of possessions, habits, etc. Of course, there are various forms that are knowingly adopted into the individual routine. Examples include eating, drinking, smoking, etc. One may assume that a glutton has the inability to control their physical nature; or appetite, which more aptly identifies the aforementioned statement. A weak mentality and poor, physical indulgences can easily distract a believer who so strongly acknowledges faith and spirituality. More importantly, if one fails to reconcile these sinful desires, how can the respective individual prevent further impulses similar to lust, anger, etc.

"And put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony."

Though I previously offered a few examples, I must also acknowledge that gluttony can be perceived in various aspects. According to the Deuteronomy verse above, rebellion is also referenced as gluttony; as is disobedience, punishment, selfishness.........anything that is enacted and not respectively limited. Supposedly, the principle of the sin disrupts harmonious relations between man and God. I hate to be judgmental, as I do not bear the latter title, but it appears that Christians are extremely hypocritical. While Christians rejoice and proclaim the word of the Lord, they tend to repeatedly worship material possessions rather than those of spiritual. This, too, can be identified as gluttony. The concluding factor distinguishes gluttons as those who are in constant denial, are hopeless, and will inevitably feel sorrow for their thoughtless actions.
